Statement from Democrats Abroad International Chair Martha McDevitt-Pugh on the victory of Judge Allison Riggs:
Yesterday, Judge Allison Riggs, the voters of North Carolina, and democracy carried the day, when Judge Jefferson Griffin finally conceded the race for NC State Supreme Court to Judge Riggs.
Judge Griffin tried numerous ways to have the legal, eligible votes of North Carolinians cast out and discounted, even after they had voted per State law. Many of these were military and American voters abroad.
However, due to the perseverance of these voters and their determination to ensure their votes were counted, these efforts failed.
Democrats Abroad mounted an active social media campaign to keep attention on this important race, contacted all of our overseas NC voters to keep them apprised of what was happening and be ready to cure their ballots, served as a ready source of up-to-date information for our members and prepared to contact and assist voters with the curing process, in partnership with the North Carolina Democratic Party.
Republicans in NC are trying many different tactics to disenfranchise voters, but we are fighting back, and this saga shows how when we do, we can win.
Democrats Abroad is ready to help all Americans abroad vote, and make sure that their votes are received and counted, no matter which state they vote in.
