Saturday 14 June No Kings, No Tyrants - Celebrating Democracy Meet & Greet 

This Saturday, 14 June, come join Democrats Abroad South Africa to stand in solidarity and community. We’ll be celebrating freedom and democracy on what will now be known as No Kings Day. In Cape Town, we will have an afternoon meet & greet with storytelling. We will also be marking Pride Month with a look-ahead to Juneteenth.

We will gather at 2pm at the Unitarian Church located at 64 Hout Street in Cape Town CBD. There’s parking across the street – just let them know you’re there for an event at the church.

Coffee, tea and snacks will be served. If you have a special treat to share, bring it along. 

And bring the kids – this is a child-friendly event.

Most important, please be sure to bring a story to share! 

Americans are perhaps best known for our storytelling, so we’ll be sharing different takes on a tale we all have told more than once. It’s the “You know you’ve been in South Africa awhile when…” story. It may be a brief anecdote or a full-blown adventure - up to five minutes at the mic. Got a South African significant other? They’re welcome to tell how they knew you had truly arrived. Also, if they’ve spent time in the USA, their tales of culture shock, too, can be part of the mix. 

PS. Not a Democrat? This is open to all pro-democracy Americans, dual citizens, their friends and family. If you are committed to our constitution, you'll be in good company.
